Measure the area with a tape measurer to get square footage. Artificial turf is sold by square footage and depending on the vendor, you may have to buy full rolls.
Remove existing ground in place. Dig and remove 4 inches of ground.
Add the roadbase in layers and spread out evenly using a rake. Run a plate compactor over the roadbase to compact and even out area. If you do not have a plate compactor, you can use a tamper to compact the base.
Artificial turf will come in rolls. Roll out the artificial turf and let it sit out for at least 30 minutes to give the artificial turf time to expand and flatten out. Make sure to roll out the turf so that the turf blades are facing the same direction if you have multiple rolls.
Cut off the edges of the artificial turf using a utility knife. Make sure you cut in the same direction each time you make a cut.
Roll out seam tape under the artificial turf where pieces need to be connected. Apply turf glue on top of seam tape in a “s” shape.
Use 6 inch nails or landscape staples to nail down the turf with a hammer. Apply nails/staples every 6 inches along the edges and every 2 feet inside and throughout the turf.
There are several options for artificial turf infill. the most popular type is silica sand. However, keep in mind that sicila is toxic to humans when inhaled. If area is to be used as a playground or area for pets, check for alternative landfill options.
Your turf is now ready to enjoy and not have to wory about mowing the lawn again.
